Strong Core Muscles = Strong Kung Fu
Developing a strong core is not only great for overall health, but it also develops a powerful foundation for martial arts training. As Shaolin Studios, we encourage our students to push towards greater strength and accomplishments!
Studio Closure Reminder
Just a reminder to our students that Portsmouth Shaolin Studios will be closed Wednesday November 27th through Sunday December 1st.
We will be open for our regular hours on Monday December 2nd. Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday!
Black Sash!
On November 2, 2013 Jack R. tested for and received his first level Black Sash in the 5-Animal forms Kung Fu system. This is equivalent to a 1st Degree Black Belt, requiring the same commitment and dedicated training. Congratulations, Jack! Portsmouth Shaolin Studios is very proud of you!
Congratulations to our Competitors!
Portsmouth students who traveled to Connecticut to participate in the Grand Championship Shaolin Olympics, and/or our Open Tournament, came back with several trophies. All Portsmouth students received at least one place trophy (1st – 4th Place) in an event, while others received a place trophy in all of the multiple events they participated in. Some students also received “Spirit and Courage” awards. Portsmouth students very ably represented the studio against students from the 12 other SDSS locations. But regardless of which studio the competing students were from…..We’re very proud of them all!
Spooky Friday @ SDSS
This Friday, October 25th is Spooky Friday at Shaolin Studios Portsmouth! The haunting starts at 5pm, and runs for the regular class time. All students (and parents) are encouraged to come in costume. Games and refreshments are the plan for the day. Ever do martial arts in a costume? Now you can!
Martial Arts offers Focus, Confidence
Martial Arts, whether it be karate, TKD, kung fu, or any other style, provides all kinds of opportunities to build focus. Using that focus to increase skills, builds confidence!
Portsmouth Students Winners in Tournament!
Sixteen students, representing Portsmouth Shaolin Studios, attended the NH State Shaolin Olympics tournament on Saturday, September 21st. The event was held in Concord, NH, at the Holiday Inn. All sixteen students received medals in their various events — quite an accomplishment. All now qualify for the Grand Championship tournament to be held in Connecticut on Sunday, November 3, 2013. All 13 SDSS schools will be participating in the November event, so the competition promises to be fierce.
Congratulations to all our Portsmouth students, and Good Luck in the next tournament!
Reminder of Studio Closure
Just a reminder to our students…..the studio is closed Saturday, September 21st, so that we may participate in the NH State Shaolin Olympics Qualifying Tournament.
Challenge Yourself!
There are many ways to challenge yourself….most of which involve working harder! Here’s a way to challenge yourself and still have fun….. compete in a tournament. Shaolin Studios is hosting the 2013 Shaolin Olympics for students in their three NH studios on Saturday, September 21st. The event will be held at the Holiday Inn in Concord, with the first event beginning at 10am. Portsmouth SDSS will be closed that day as we’ll all be in Concord cheering on our student competitors. Go Team Portsmouth!
School is Back in Session!
Yes, September means that school starts again. For many of you, that is something to be excited about. For some, there may be a feeling of dread, and that feeling may stem from many things….fear of failure, dislike of certain class subjects, concern over how others will react to you, and more. Whatever the reason, the feelings are real. If YOU are experiencing dread at the beginning of the school year, talk to a trusted adult. They can help put things in perspective for you, and perhaps help you to find some of the excitement that others are experiencing.
