October Kung Fu

It’s starting….the studio is slowly changing into a haunted dojo.  ohhhhh…there’s blood on the mirrors!  Where did that come from?  (or who did that come from????)   October is always a fun month, as something new happens every day, which does require a bit more focus from our students!  But what a fun way to learn that focus!

Women’s Self-Defense

Women helping women learn–it’s a great approach. Learning self-defense skills takes practice, and a willingness to let go of inhibitions and “just do it”.  That’s why having a friend (or two) take the Danger Awareness course with you makes it all the more interesting. This course, over approximately 5 hours,  teaches how to get out of various grabs, where to strike for the greatest effect, and the best techniques for getting away from an armed or unarmed attacker.  Discussions of realistic scenarios versus television drama are also included, as well as tips on being aware of your surroundings.   Call us to schedule your sessions today!  Classes are flexible.  We work hard to accommodate your schedule.

Kung Fu Learning

Learning about self-discipline, self-control, patience, respect, and honesty is all part of our program for children’s martial arts.  We’re more than just physical skills!  Understanding when, how, and even whether to use those skills are also important.  We give simple life lessons, illustrating how good kung fu is part of everyday life.

Strong Kung Fu Focus

As we often say to our students……It’s all about the stances.  And, stances require good focus.   If you want your little ones to improve their ability to focus on a task for longer than a few seconds, try Kung Fu!

Spirit of Shaolin – True Kung Fu Spirit

Catherine and Jason Thorn were recently awarded the Spirit of Shaolin award from Grandmaster Steven DeMasco.   The award recognizes a great amount of kindness, compassion, and selflessness to others.  The Thorns have shown these traits everyday in their commitment to the Portsmouth studio.  Both have given of their time and energies to help teach, as well as maintain and clean the studio.  Kudos to them both!

Kung Fu – A Family Experience!

One of the most exciting aspects of kung fu training is that it’s an experience the whole family can enjoy together.  While other activities may offer this type of opportunity, kung fu training lasts a lifetime! Martial arts is a wonderful and positive activity for the young and the young at heart. Your entire family can go through the process of earning belts and learning something together.  There’s no better way to optimize the family bonding experience.
